Cleanliness in Event Production
From Cameron McGehee, Owner.
Back when I did lawn care, after doing the mowing, edging, or trimming, I always stressed to my assistants that one of the MOST important parts of the job is doing a thorough job with a blower afterwards; cutting the grass is one thing, but clippings all over the sidewalk is worse than a tall lawn.
This applies as much to AV as it did to my lawn care work back then; if you set up a whole show, even if you made an amazing product with the most impressive gear, if there are cables and wads of tape lying around, the event looks “thrown-together” rather than professionally designed. When I do a production for my clients at Looks Great Productions, I always make sure the team does our best in tucking cables out of sight where possible, running nice, straight, parallel tape lines, and utilizing short drape to block off tech booth areas.
It takes an extra few minutes when the setup is done, and yeah, sometimes you end up running a cable the long way to stay out of the floor, but that’s really nothing if the event runs for hours and it makes it look that much better.
And as I always say, if it’s on camera, it’s forever. Who wants a mess to be in their “forever” keepsake video, even if it’s in the back of the room?
